Why This Matters
There are nearly 400,000 children in foster care in the United States. Kershaw County alone is currently seeking about 20 additional foster families. When children enter DSS care, and no homes are available locally, they are placed in other counties - often forcing them to leave their schools and communities during an already traumatic season. The church has an opportunity to step into this gap.
Biblical Foundation
- James 1:27 - Care for orphans and widows in their distress.
- Psalm 68:5 - God is a father to the fatherless.
- Isaiah 1:17 - Defend the cause of the fatherless.
- Matthew 18:5 - Whoever welcomes a child in my name welcomes me.
Event Purpose
This event will help our church understand foster care and adoption and discover practical ways to care for vulnerable children. Guests from partner organizations will share resources and opportunities to serve.
Guest Speakers
- Marilyn - Kershaw County DSS
- Susie - Fostering the Family
- Jessica - Lifeline Children's Services
Ways You Can Respond
- Explore becoming a licensed foster family
- Learn about domestic or international adoption
- Serve within the One Hope ministry
- Join a One Hope Family Group supporting foster/adoptive families
One Hope Family Groups are groups of 4-5 couples that support fostering or adopting families through meals, prayer, encouragement, childcare help, and practical support, so no family walks this journey alone.
